Crime Victims are asked to register now for Victims Visitors’ Day and to be included in the 2013 NCVRW Souvenir Booklet

Atlanta, Ga. - The theme for National Crime Victims’ Rights Week (NCVRW) is “New Challenges and New Solutions.” The 2013 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week is April 21 – 27th. The state’s Multi-Agency Victim Services Partnership is inviting victims of crime to attend the annual ceremony and open house scheduled for April 23rd at State Offices South, Tift College in Forsyth. The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m., in Roberts Chapel and the open house will follow at noon.

The Department of Corrections and Parole Board’s Office of Victim Services will conduct a Victims Visitors’ Day from noon to 4 p.m., allowing crime victims and family to meet with parole staff including Parole Board Members to discuss offender cases. Victims and family are asked to pre-register by contacting the office at 1-800-593-9474.

The ceremony and event is being held to honor crime victims and increase public awareness about victims’ rights. The open house will allow victims and the public to learn more about the services offered by the individual agencies. Leaders from the Multi-Agency Victim Services Partnership will speak to victims about their specific agency’s services during the ceremony.

This year a Victim Recognition Page will be included in the 2013 NCVRW Souvenir Booklet which is dedicated to Crime Victims. The page is intended to honor victims. Victims or loved ones of victims of crime in Georgia may have their name included on the page. Please complete the form at www.pap.georgia.gov or contact the Office of Victim Services by March 28, 2013.

At the open house from 12:00 to 4 p.m., victims will have the opportunity to meet with the leaders from all of the sponsoring agencies and receive information on the following services:

  • Get questions answered regarding claims processing

  • Receive current information on offenders, including the maximum release date, parole date and location of the inmate

  • Register to receive further notification of an offender’s status

  • Submit Victim Impact Statements

  • Receive Victim Services information

  • Learn how to navigate the Department of Corrections and the State Board of Pardons and Paroles’ websites
